Even as an unsaved child when I heard about that sort of idol I knew better than that. Individuals usually know better than worshipping things like that, but they have more dangerous idols. They have idols in their hearts. I had idols in my heart. Jesus wants to dwell in our hearts and drive the idols out. As a picture of that He cast out demons several times in the New Testament. The minds of men, even men with Christ in their hearts, can imagine things about God that are not true. We need to be very careful that what we believe about God agrees with what the Bible says about Him. 2 Corinthians 10:5: Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;Idols and demons can only attack one who has Christ dwelling within from the outside. 1 John 4:4: Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.James 4:7: Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. The most destructive thing about them is that idols are killers. They do not provide eternal life. Only Jesus can provide that. John 8:44: Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.1 John 5:12: He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. The vast majority of references to the human heart in the Bible refer to the non-material part of us that will exist forever somewhere, either Heaven or Hell. It is the part of us that can choose for God or against Him. Your heart is the real you and my heart is the real me. |
